Aureo is proud to announce that the Central Bank of El Salvador (BCR) has granted our operating entity, Swapido S.A.S. de C.V. (operating as Aureo), a Bitcoin Service Provider (BSP) license.
In case you missed it, we recently rebranded as Aureo and announced our $1.1 million pre-seed raise, exclusively led by Early Riders. You can read our announcement about it here.
What is this license about?
The BSP license authorizes our Salvadoran entity to operate Bitcoin exchange and custody services under El Salvador’s regulatory framework. In practice, it provides the foundation that allows Aureo to deliver compliant, secure, and transparent products across Latin America.
All Aureo services are offered through our licensed entity in El Salvador, which follows rigorous operational and security standards.
Why El Salvador?
El Salvador is one of the most Bitcoin-friendly jurisdictions in the world. We believe its regulatory framework sets an example for the region and enables sustainable innovation.
For Aureo, El Salvador represents a strategic base for building Latam-first Bitcoin financial services, combining regulatory clarity with regional reach.
How do Aureo users benefit?
With the BSP license in place, Aureo can now offer secure, regulated Bitcoin services to over 100 million adults in Mexico, including:
- Buy Bitcoin in seconds via SPEI bank transfer
- Sell Bitcoin and receive pesos in your bank account (or send to someone else’s)
- Send Bitcoin over the Lightning Network (on-chain transactions coming soon)
- Secure sign-in and withdrawals with passkeys and biometric authentication
Eligibility: Mexican nationals, foreign residents in Mexico, and international users, subject to our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
How Aureo operates compliance in Mexico
Compliance is at the core of our operations. Aureo follows all applicable El Salvador and Mexico regulations to ensure safe and transparent Bitcoin transactions.
To enable MXN on/off-ramps, Aureo maintains a service-level agreement (SLA) with a local operating agent:
Soluciones Tecnológicas Nagumatech, S.A.P.I. de C.V. (dba Soluciones Nagumatech), registered with the SAT to perform and report actividad vulnerable for virtual assets under Mexico’s LFPIORPI framework.
Soluciones Nagumatech receives SPEI bank transfers on behalf of Aureo via the fintech-regulated API provider NVIO Pagos.
What’s next for Aureo in El Salvador?
Aureo plans to apply for a Digital Asset Service Provider (DASP) license with the National Digital Assets Commission (CNAD) to unlock additional features, including stablecoin services.
We also plan to launch exchange and custody services for individuals, private clients, and businesses in El Salvador by integrating with the local banking system and hiring Salvadoran talent.
Aureo’s just getting started
Today marks a major milestone in Aureo’s rollout of Bitcoin financial services across Latin America. We’re starting in Mexico, where most of our team is based, but our sights are set on the entire region.
